Sticking with my new mantra of reflecting in a quicker and more direct way.
Last weeks SMART targets
- I am going to have my game ready before the Wednesday conference and I am going to volunteer to demonstrate my game to the rest of the group.
- I am make some specific time in the week to comment on other peoples contributions to the Rapid Iteration 1 task. This will be done through commenting on their posts on Canvas and being more active in the Discord group. I will do a minimum of 5 contributions.
Well I did number 1 and it went really well. This just reinforced my existing knowledge that there is nothing better than live feedback but also that my development pipeline was solid as I was able to follow my Agile management and get it done well before I needed it to be.
Number 2 I did not do so well on, time mostly but also, as stated above, I much prefer to just talk to people about things. I need to do better here however. I have however had a greater contribution in the Discord channel, somewhere I think I can help people and get help myself in a much quicker manner. Its also easier to ask specific questions about things.
This week
The main aspect of this week was getting the first Rapid Ideation done, this is documented across several posts so will not going too much into it. Needless to say I was very happy with what I managed but also because it has given me a good solid chance to examine my development process to check how good it is. There are still things to work on, I get sidetracked too easy and while this sometimes leads to happy accidents it is not the most productive use of my time.
I showed off my work at the group conference and I found this to be really beneficial. I got a lot of positive comments and some nice suggestions on taking the project forward if I wanted to. Suggestions of it being releasable in its current state made me feel really happy.
One thing I have put some thought into this week is my development logging. When I was writing my posts on Shadow Sword I realised just how much I had done in between the posts which made logging the development a lot harder to do because I had to remember what I did, and sometimes reverse engineer things to show them off. So a SMART target this week will be to improve this somehow.
This weeks SMART targets
Right no getting around it, I did not get one of my targets done last week so I am going to redo it with some tweaks.
- I am going to make a bigger contribution to the wider group by getting more involved in finding out other peoples processes. I will do this through the Rapid Ideation 2 project but exploring how others are approaching it and contributing where I can. I will do this through the Spark forum for this weeks tasks before the next week of tasks are released.
And then one to get better at development logging
- I am going to produce shorter development logs more often to document how I am working throughout the Rapid Ideation 2 project. I will try to do daily posts on days I do develop anything rather than weekly. This will run through the whole of Rapid Ideation 2.
