Well this might be a short one this week, which is strange because I think this is the week I have done and learned the most from. However I had a bombshell moment with my reflective practice this week and this should illustrate the change.

It came from the weekly content in a presentation by Parker (2021), and it happened early in the presentation.

A common mistake made by beginners to reflective writing is to merely describe the context and/or the experience. Avoid this. description is not particularly important.

Something must of triggered in my brain because I sat back and went ‘but I do this’. I am doing it right now with this sentence. So I am not going to. Lets see how it goes.

5 Key Skill Domains

I learned a lot from this and from going back through my blog entries. I realised that I have a good spread of approaches and used of the domains, I just need to try and incorporate all of them in future. The lack of interpersonal aspects at the moment is probably down to the early stages of the course but is something I am looking out for now and will incorporate more in my reflection.

SMART

I have used SMART in my professional and personal life for nearly 10 years now thanks to being a teacher. I do not use it enough to set specific targets however so from now on I will be attempted to set a SMART target for myself at the end of each reflective post.

Study Pod Conference

This was really good this week and I showed off what I had been working on. This gave me two outlooks, everyone was impressed with what I had done and how I had interpreted the challenge, it re-affirmed that this is the best way to get feedback and reiterated to me the need to do it more often. On the other hand others might have felt a little intimidated by this, I feel I have made good progress on this but this is what I do and have done for a long time. Even looking at it myself I have done a lot, maybe more than what others expect themselves to do. Should I reel it back a bit? Or perhaps I should try to help others more, well that is one thing I can do so I will (SMART target incoming).

Development Practice

  • Time management – Getting better but still need to commit specific time to working
  • New knowledge – Yes loads this week, beginning to lose my arrogant attitude about knowing stuff an opening up to new things. Still more to do.
  • Ideation Techniques – Well they worked, I produced exactly when I had ideated. Had to change a few things as I went and the idea developed but it is still very close to what I had planned. Maybe these techniques do work after all and again I need to put my arrogance on the back shelf more.
  • That one task – To do it properly. Well I am trying.

This weeks SMART targets

  1. I am going to have my game ready before the Wednesday conference and I am going to volunteer to demonstrate my game to the rest of the group.
  2. I am make some specific time in the week to comment on other peoples contributions to the Rapid Iteration 1 task. This will be done through commenting on their posts on Canvas and being more active in the Discord group. I will do a minimum of 5 contributions.
